Topic: 4 string or 5 string bass and WHY
i want to buy a new bass.. i ve got a 4string but im thinking which is the bass i need.. i listen from prog metal to jazz. if you think of it well the 5string bass has only 5 notes more than the other one..

hello panos for me the low B strig is very good if exists!!
my opinion is try 5 strings but the strings its more closse its other and its a little more dificault!!!on 4 string its easy to do techniques but if you do on 5 string u have 1 string extra tou doing something better!!!if you don't want that extra buy a 4-string!!!Think carefully!!!

5 strings are more common on heavy songs, and not many bass players use it for the fact that it is not too necesary. if what you do is playing other song bands you should check better if the bands that you like uses oftenly the 5 string. and if what you do is play and make original songs it is not so simple to use, because its sound is too heavy, but also you can use to play in higher frets to make it mory easy to do fast scales or things like that. finally it is not very useful to have a 5 string. Only if you see the genre or bands u like or what you create is too heavy. in a band it is oftenly used with a 7 string guitar. so as said dimitris think carefully. i use a 5 string bass, but just because my favorite band (gandhi, a rock band from costa rica) uses a lot this kind of 5 string sound

hello Panos if your still looking for a 5 string bass and your on a tight budget,but dont want to comprise on quality then you might want to have a look at Yamaha's Attittude bass.
This bass is no longer made as a five string anymore you can only buy four string versions.
I own one and chose it because it delivers a good range of sounds and would suit prog rock and reggae jazz styles another bass you might want to try is the Yamaha BB615 again reasonable money and quality sounds, including three band eq and active ciruit check reviews of these on bass player sights
